Diving into July - Newsletter

In July the NZ Coast Guards run the Big Swim.  Our Coast Guards rescue over 6,000 people a year and educate around 14,000 people a year.  I have signed up to swim 10k in July and I am hoping to raise NZD 350.00 in sponsorship.
This is a stretch for me, getting up early in dark July and swimming  -----
----- that is why I am sharing my goal with you.

3 ways to Support the Coast Guard

The Power of Water -  water based exercise

Water based exercise can be transformative for many.

Just like land-based exercise, water aerobics and swimming can be effective strategies for improving cardio fitness, building strength, boosting your mood, easing joint pain, sleeping better, and reducing your risk for diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer.

In addition, water-based exercise offers some advantages you can't get on land:
1.  Gentle on your joints  & difficult to fall over -   this is due to the effect of buoyancy on your body.
When in the water, your joints experience less impact, making the pool a welcoming environment for anyone with arthritis or joint injuries
2. Combo work out - cardio and plus strength. This is due to the resistance that water provides. The faster you move the more resistance the water provides. Plus the resistance of water helps you burn more calories.
3.  Compression  - ever wondered why your need to pass more urine after a swim?  This is due to the effect of hydrostatic pressure. The effects are greatest the deeper your body part is and they are 3-D, wrapping your body.   If you need to wear compression,  this force could be over 70mmHg, well over the strength of a class 4 compression stocking
